Our approach
Based on extensive evidence that shows how calming our bodies results in calming our minds, we take a science-based approach to the ‘why’ behind our trainings.
The ‘how’ of our workshops, however, is firmly embedded in experience and involves live practice sessions in small groups so that participants can learn new ways of working — then apply them immediately when back on the job, holding the line.
We start by encouraging participants to reflect on challenging interactions they’ve experienced, noticing how these have affected their nervous systems. This helps crisis supporters and counsellors become more attuned to their bodily responses, increasing their capacity to care for themselves during unsettling sessions while they’re occurring.
Our tailored, mindful awareness exercises then help participants work with this awareness, bringing non-judgemental curiosity to their mind-body process during challenging interactions.
Down-regulation techniques are at the core of the training, so we spend ample time helping participants learn and practice how to somatically soothe themselves, enabling them to think more clearly and respond more helpfully during the interactions themselves.
Combining both theory and experiential learning, our workshops have been successfully delivered, both in-person and online, to a range of crisis supporters and counsellors at organisations such as Lifeline and GriefCare.
Created especially by and for crisis supporters and counsellors, Holding the Line workshops will boost the sustainability of crisis support teams and counsellors. In turn, it will enhance the quality of support provided to help-seekers and clients.
Our rates are competitive and on a sliding scale. Please contact us so we can tailor our workshops to your budget.
